Weekly roundup: Events in NYC and online
Creative Conversations on mass incarceration: Last night, Working Narratives’ executive director Nick Szuberla (just left of center, in terms of position in photo) was on a panel in New York City about artist responses to mass incarceration. Nick talked about our “Nation Inside” platform, “Prison Poetry Workshop,” and other efforts over his nearly 20 years of arts activism. Learn about all the participating artists on the Twitter roundup of the conversation, at #creativeconvos. The event was the first in a series of such discussions sponsored by Creative Capital.
Opportunity Agenda’s 10th anniversary: This past Monday, the good folks at Opportunity Agenda celebrated 10 years of building public will for equal opportunity — and doing it with all the creativity and energy the task requires! Right, Working Narratives’ Paul VanDeCarr poses with Opportunity Agenda’s social-justice superhero Helvetika Bold. Catch the wrap up of the celebration on Twitter at #CCAwards10.
And an Opportunity Agenda webinar on messaging around misinformation. You want to counter misinformation in political matters — but “myth-busting” can just reinforce the myths. So what’s a social-justice activist to do? Join the Opportunity Agenda’s webinar on May 18, from 2-3pm! Full info here.
