Weekly roundup: Story summit, pop culture, more

The Future of Storytelling — a two-day gathering of visionaries in media, technology and communications — has announced the preliminary lineup of speakers for its October 2016 summit.  On the list are folks from Storyful, Amazon Studios, and Improv Everywhere, as well as fascinating outliers like architect Bjarke Ingels. (What does an architect have to do with storytelling? Not much, directly, but he added a refreshing left-field perspective when I saw him speak 2 years ago.) More speakers to be added in the coming months.

Culture Changes Us is a new campaign and retreat series launched with support from the Nathan Cummings Foundation. An inaugural cohort of 8 social-justice leaders will explore strategies to create culture change. “Human beings live in stories,” says project founder Bridgit Antoinette Evans, whose studio, FUEL, has for more than 15 years collaborated with top visionaries in the fields of pop culture and social change. Read more about the inaugural cohort and the project.

#PopJustice, a new series of reports on pop culture and social change, is now available for download from the Nathan Cummings Foundation (one of the project’s principal funders, along with Unbound Philanthropy) and Liz Manne (the editorial director of the series). The six reports cover such topics as the promise of pop culture, understanding the entertainment industry, and economic data and foundation grantmaking. Check ’em out!
